Dashpoint Name: South of the Family Plot

I was heading out to the Local Pipefitters on a Saturday morning to pick up the popcorn sales information for our Cub Scout Pack fund raiser, and left a little early to snag this one - even though it was not strictly “on the way.” After heading down to Wilmington, the town where my parents went to high school together, I drove past the cemetery on the south side of town where my grandmother is buried. My grandfather's marker is there as well, but he's buried quite a ways away, with my step-grandmother. About 1.5 miles south of the cemetery in Wilmington lies this little hamlet of Lakewood Shores. The dashpoint lies in a wooded area where new houses are springing up. There's even a little foot path back into the woods at the closest approach by car (at 43 meters by car). I hopped out, leaving the car running and stepped into the woods to see if I could zero out while still keeping my car in site - but the musty smell of mildew and mold was overwhelming. So I glanced around, saw the garbage strewn everywhere and decided that it wasn't really worth the zeroing of the point. One final point of indentification - the house across the street had a small boat in the driveway.

Dashpoint Name: Dropping Off the Handbells

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get this one without some excuse to get me 41 miles from home with gas prices soaring. But our initial 3 octave set of handbells purchased in 2000 needed to undergo a maintenance check, so that meant a drive to Cary, IL, to drop them off. And lo - there is a reason to travel to GD74-CABI! After dropping them off, we drove the short 3 miles (5km) to the point which lies in Steeple Run Estates. The point is in the front yard of 4220 Wyndwood Drive, a light brown brick house on a sloping hill that receeds to the northeast. To the south is a neighborhood park (Wyndwood Park) that evidently is usually used for soccer games as there was a couple of soccer goals set up - but no games today.

Out with the Cub Scouts of Pack 13 in Eaton Preserve for a day of Cub Scouty adventures - we headed out about 2:00 in the afternoon to hike the short way to this cache. Many of the boys were sad that they had nothing to trade, but several vowed to return with their pockets full of trading loot now that they know where the box is. For many, this was their first attempt at caching. Thanks for a great time! Can be found wearing sneakers
