Dashpoint Name: Baby, It's Cold Outside

I've been keeping track of my temperatures at dashpoint visits ever since January of 2005. Since that time, I've hit 63 points within 150 miles from home, and 9 of them have been below 0°C/32°F. Seven of those have been in January or February, and this is now the second one to be below zero in December, coupled with last year's sojourn to GD54-CAAN at midnight to report the closest to my home. Except this was at 1:30 p.m. local time.

Last Friday, our area was hit with an early season snow storm - a far cry from the Nov 26 temperatures of 68°F/20°C where we were walking around in light jackets. The Chicago area was dumped with about 6-10 inches (15-25cm) of snow and the kids had a snow day from school on Friday. Over the weekend, the temperatures never increased, and the long range forecast doesn't have us breaking the freezing point until this coming Saturday (Dec 9).

So, I decided to do a nice dashpoint easily accessible from the warmth of my heated car today. The point is in Wheaton, Illinois, county seat of DuPage County, Illinois and home of Wheaton College, and alumnus Billy Graham. The dashpoint resides on the back deck of a raised-ranch home at 1300 Daly Street in Wheaton, a tan house with a slightly sunken driveway. Just driving down Daly Street between Stoddard to the west and Summit to the east (“Summit”? - you're kidding right?) will get you into the magic circle. I pulled in to the driveway and turned around, getting me under 23 meters and scoring the point.

Hunters: Kelly, Sam, Vegebuddy

Green Dot is home.
Blue Dot is cache.
Vegebuddy is my mother-in-law, and the cache nanny for this cache, but ever since its placement in June of 2002, she's never been out here. The original placement was with my father-in-law, so I headed out with my mother-in-law and younger son to scope everything out and perform a maintenance visit.

The cache is not as I had planted it, but it is in good condition, and in a great spot. Enjoyed the hike back out, and showed off my prowess of memory to vegebuddy by finding the cache without using the GPS at all. I think this will be here for a LONG time.
