GD63-CACI Terra Server Picture Coordinates: N 41.5810° W 087.8531° State: Illinois Date Found: 9/11/2006 9:17 pm Hunters: Kelly Temperature: 66°F/19°C Closest Distance: 71.5 meters Near Route 45 and Interstate 80, South of Chicago 19.91 miles from home | Green Dot is home. Blue Dot is dashpoint. |
Dashpoint Name: C-16-06 With Sharp Fangs, In a Dead Tree I'm in the middle of taking the Woodbadge Course for Boy Scouts of America, advanced leadership and management training. I'm in the Bobwhite Patrol (a group of five to six adult leaders). The course is broken up into management training and team building for the first weekend, and then there is a break of six weeks where we work on various projects and plan our second meeting. The second weekend is outdoor camping. Our patrol is spread out over a very large area, and I used my mapping skills to find a central location for all of us to meet - and it landed pretty much at the intersection of Interstate 80 and Route 45, LaGrange Road. Our first meeting was at the Texas Roadhouse at the right off the interstate (REALLY good steak). The second meeting was on Monday, September 11, at Archivers - a scrap-book store. The store was only 1.5 miles north of GD63-CACI. The dashpoint lies in an Illinois Nature Preserve that is part of the Cook County Forest Preserve District. It's pretty wide open land, but the magic circle extended just far enough to be able to score the point from Route 45, which I did about 9:15 last night after the meeting. There's a sign for 171st street almost exactly where the road is closest to the point. What's with the Sharp Fangs, In a Dead Tree? While we were at the first weekend, we had a ceremony, similar to those where the Cub Scouts bridge to Boy Scouts at age 11. One of the songs talked about 3 vultures with sharp fangs sitting in a dead tree. At the end of the ceremony, we were told which patrol we would be assigned. Bobwhite. Bobwhite? What's a Bobwhite? Part of the idea of the group and the team building exercises was to come up with a Patrol Yell. We did. Bobwhites: With Sharp Fangs, In a Dead Tree. 3 points for Markwell and Trailblazers | ![]() |
2006 GONIL Summer Picnic by Geocachers of Northeastern Illinois (GONIL)
| ![]() TRADED BUGS, BUT NEED TO LOG THEM SEPARATELY | Green Dot is home. Blue Dot is cache. |
| Good event - nice friends and such, but the biggest problem is that I came so late, and that I spent almost the entire time with the bugs. I got to meet quite a few people, but I wish I could have gone out caching a bit more. Time contstraints are getting the best of me. Wags did go, which was cool - and Sam went along and had a great time. | ![]() | ![]() |
