Going No Where, Fast!
This is an odd one. It seems that one of my travel bugs was just north of Atlanta in the cache Roswell Incident (GCME0Y) when the cache got picked up for being in a National Forest without permission. The owner said he HAD permission, and the cache page quickly deteriorated into a shouting match. But what happened to my bug?!?! I e-mailed ScoutRanger, the person that confiscated the cache and explained that my scouts were tracking the bug, and she graciously mailed Going No Where, Fast! back to me for re-release into the wild.

Dashpoint Name: Frank Lloyd Wright and Cobra CBs

I wanted to make sure that I got out this month to find a dash, so with the wife doing Scout Training out by GD59-BYQY (which is probably unreachable), me and the boys headed out after handbell rehearsal this morning. We drove in to the city, and this point was only about a half mile from GD44-CAFU. We did have a great time riding up Harlem Avenue, a pretty major north/south road in the near western suburbs that passes through Oak Park, home to Frank Lloyd Wright and Ernest Hemmingway in their days. Heading north out of Oak Park, we hit drove by a great virtual - GC4C07 - which we found back in April of 2002 (pictures posted to dashing from today).

After finding Courtland Road, the east/west road off of Harlem that was only about a mile west of the dashpoint, we drove up and reached the magic circle. On the aerial image, I noticed that this residential area had something of a large warehouse or factory, only to find that it's a corporate building (either manufacturing or distribution) for Cobra - makers of communication devices including Citizen Band radios (CBs) still popular in the trucking industry.

After getting in the magic circle, we were able to get within 43 meters by driving on the road that took us by the house that held the point in their backyard. These are close one-story bungalows with almost no yard between the houses, but still a fairly nice neighborhood.

This is a cache that I inherited from the Charles Street Gang when they moved to Oklahoma. I figured I should try and find it if I can so I can actually claim it, and own it.

Unfortunately, after visiting the spot that was most obvious and then confirming this with the old owner, the cache appears to be gone. I'll have to see if I can replace it.

I was very pleasantly surprised at this cache. While only 3/4 of a mile from my home, it was just rugged enough that it peaked my interest. I started off on the wrong side of the ditch, which meant that I had to backtrack and go in another way. Very cool. Found a travel bug, too!Can be found wearing sneakers

Dashpoint Name: Galloway Cemetery

Wow - it's hot. With 95°F/35°C and 95% humidity, summer rolled into the Chicago area just in time for the first summertime holiday. Instead of the gardening and caching that we had planned, we stopped at Dairy Queen for ice cream and headed out in the minivan to hit this dashpoint after a 30 mile drive. Straight out Interstate 80 from Joliet to Marsailles, Illinois, and near GD41-BYVO that we hit back in November of 2004, we travelled past Illini State Park and out to the open farmland beyond. The dashpoint was on one of the straight east-west roads in the yard of a farmhouse. I believe the point was right at the base of a fallen massive tree in the front yard, but we were able to score by pulling over to the little turnaround on the south side of the road.

After scoring, we went back through to Marsailles, and came across a sign for the Galloway Cemetery. There were old unmaintained concrete stairs going up the hill, and I had to investigate, so the wife pulled off, and I climbed up. The cemetery is an old one, sporting pioneer gravesites from around the mid 1800s, but it is immaculately maintained with fresh flowers and well kept grass. There was a mausoleum, with one of the doors open (but I didn't investigate further). Cool little stop.

Thanks for giving us the destination for our journey!
